Infinity Modulus any good in 2024?

Now that I've had them for a little while, and done some more work using my measurement mic, to get the placement just right, I can definitely see how some could get these, with a pair of subs, sell everything else, and be set.
I have other speakers, including standmounts, costing as much as 6000$ original msrp, and these seem right up there with them.

Granted, they need subwoofers, and they're by no means perfect - but for their price, especialy for what they go for these days, with the right setup, they're suprisingly close; these are astonishing value and build quality.

When first connected they seem to be lacking, once the ear brain has adjusted to their neutral sound signature others just seem wrong is the only way I can explain my 33yrs of experience with the full set.

And yes proper setup is highly rewarded, they must be level, no toe in, the OEM stands a must to hear "everything" they have to offer, the stands are an integral part of the whole. That said lack of the stands wouldn't keep me from purchasing a pair.

As much as I can't say I've ever really experienced stands having an effect on sound with any of my speakers (even with particularly terrible/ringing ones, that desperately need to be filled with sand) I will say; the modulus stands are absurdly 'dead' when you knock on them; same with the speakers actually, when mounted on there.

I don't know if they come filled with something from factory or the previous owner did it; but I can only imagine they must be filled with sand or the like.

And the mounting system is great - again I don't know if it impacts the sonics, but as a designer, I appreciate the thought out design and convenience of it. Normally stands that mount to a speaker require you to bolt the two together with an allen key, which is basically permanent, or at least a big hassle when you want to move them/pack them.

For other readers curious about the Modulus, here is my current in-room response with the subs - Keep in mind, as mentioned, my room is very suboptimal, so its rife with peaks/nulls even after I've done what I could do minimize them. Even so, its an impressively even response compared to most of what I've seen in this room.

Edit: turns out my MiniDSP wiped all its settings when I turned on the software so that first in-room measurement is likely incorrect, its just raw without any cross over or compensation.

The amplification being internal, these days, means they can fix time domain errors much better than the physical adjustment on something like the OG Modulus can. But doubt that was the case at the time of the Modulus, so they made the best with what they had at the time.
I do think internal amplification and DSP is the future of audio, and makes for technically far superior results - I'd go so far as to say thats pretty much an indisputable fact, that active amplification/DSP is better, and is very much in the spirit of what the Modulus was doing.

That being said, I do enjoy separates more in terms of being more fun, like collecting mechanical watches or the like, and don't currently own any actives. Functionally I'd go active - but as a hobby, separates are just more fun.
Plus as a designer, separate amplifiers are fun since they're essentially a blank canvas.

At the end of the day I think Actives vs. Passives are just for different crowds, and for a large part they'll probably rarely meet/cross over. Similar to Vinyl vs. Streaming and such other diehard crowds. Luckily everyone is free to buy/own/enjoy what they want.

I can certainly attest to the linearity - I fixed my subwoofer DSP and crossovers, so they match properly now, and this is probably the flattest response I've ever had. still a few bumps and wiggles from the room, but nothing major anymore.

I was out on a run with my wife recently and there was a pair of Infinity speakers on the side of the street in a giveaway pile. I stopped and checked them out. I started to grab them and walk home with them but my wife and I don't get to run together much lately. I had 3 miles left and when I got home drove back as fast as I could. I am impressed at how nice these little speakers sound. They are hooked up to a Bryston 11b, 2blp, and Benchmark dac1.

AND the grills are in great shape! I have a pair in white and the grills are yellowed and cracked enough that I won’t even try to use them.
