Infinity Polydome K, advice ?

7.62

Infinity nutcase.
I was blessed to find a set of Infinity Kappa 8's and bring them home for 350 bucks. Woofers have been refoamed and they are in really superb condition with the exception of the Polydome K.

I put my much loved Crescendo 3009's to the side and hooked these babies up.

I am blown away by the Fantastic sound my ears are hearing, the imaging and so on is very pleasing ! I think I've found my nirvana.

Over the past few days I've done much reading on the Polydome issue, many are archived threads on Ak.

I am looking for advice on the replacement of the Polydome from those who have used the Vifa or Scanspeak driver, from what I can understand these are 6 ohm drivers and the sound supposedly is brighter ?

If you used them did they calm down after some usage time.

I've also read about a gentleman in Hong Kong that rebuilds them, that seems like the more desirable way to go as you get to keep the original lettering / speaker. I suppose I could give him a call but before I do is there anyone here who has recently used his services ?

Interesting change of pace. Let me get this straight... You're saying the 8 Kappa with bad Polydomes are sounding better than the 3009s in all good working order? How bad off are your Polydomes?

If you talk with Bill LeGall please tell us what he suggests. Substitutes aside, the best prospect is to watch eBay for a set of Kappa Polydomes in reasonably good condition. They still show up regularly on eBay but they seem to be getting a little more scarce and the sellers are wiser about jacking up the prices on those in better condition. There's no substitute for the real thing.

Are the Polydomes just yellowed, but not hard or cracked? If so, then they are OK - just treat them with Meguiar's as you have read in the threads, and they should stay working well for a long time.
