Infinity QLS 1 amplifier question? Can anyone help.

Hi AK friends. I just got in my QLS 1 speakers for the first time that included a mini trip around the world and a trip to Dr.Marks. But at any rate they are here and quite impressive! We first hooked them up to my Pioneer Spec 2 and this was not maybe the best choice of amplifiers. I believe that it went into protect mode fairly quickly even though we had it set on the 4 ohm output switch! Next a pair of Crown Macro Reference 1's were hooked up in bridged mono mode. I think the output on these when run in mono is 2,200 wpc. They sounded really nice and full hooked up like this. The only thing that concerned me is that the Crowns seemed to be running pretty warm at higher volume levels. They must be a crazy difficult load to drive with this kind of power and still giving the amps a workout? We had the posts bridged to allow one cable per speakers. Would it be advantageous to run/wire them in another manner or is this the best? Any advise would be appreciated...this type of speaker is new to me.

That model Crown is a great amp, but in the bridge mode I don't think they handle lower impedences well.

The Infinity QLS-1 is an easy load in the woofer and midrange section.
Working correctly with its crossover the Watkins woofer operates around 5 ohms.
It's the tweeter array that can fall to 2 ohms during peak transients.
My Yamahas run slightly warm at realistic listening levels driving the QLS.

I'd try vertical biamping. Better separation that way, and easier on the amps, then trying to run them bridged. But, it'd be easy enough to try both orientations, and see which sounds better.

I ran mine with a Crown XLS 1502 Drive Core on the bottom, it was more than up to the task of pushing those Watkins.I don't think I ever heard the fan at any volume. The newer crowns are super quite.

On the top I ran an Emotiva XPA 2 GEN 2 on the top, as the volume knob went up the meters on the Emotiva went up pretty fast and always ran on the hot side. IMHO the top end likes the juice to.

I overbought honestly, the mighty QLS was more than my home could handle. To small, even at low volumes watching movies the thump from those woofers would shake the house and wake up everyone .

I tried the 1502 solo and really that sounded the best, if I would have kept them I probably would have stepped up a notch or two in the Crown line and gone with one only. Again in my opinion it's hard to beat the power per dollar you get. In terms of sound quality I think they do just fine. Matched with a quality preamp is the key.

FWIW the 1502 is doing duty on Renaissance 90's now and I've not heard the fan yet, maybe I just can't hear it but it shows no stress at all.
