I'm looking for a modern upgrade from my Polk Monitor 7Cs and right now I can get a good deal on some new Infinity R162 speakers. There are surprisingly little reviews on them so I want to ask for any opinions, experiences and advice you can give me. Thanks.

I'm not familiar with those Infinities but I suspect your Polks are better. They are considered an excellent speaker even today. Do you feel that there is something lacking with them?

Yes, I'm not an expert so please excuse my rudimentary description, but the Polk Monitors sound "washed out", like music is playing in the distance almost (this is very subtle though, it's not like anything is broken on the speaker). I heard a recap would improve quality but it looked a little too and expensive and laborious when I researched it for something that may or may not fix my issue. I'm a fan of the Polk Monitors though, I have a set of 10s and 4s on my other setup. I am using a decent receiver, yamaha rx-v671, with oxygen free speaker wire. Thanks.
 
I guess "laborious" is relative, but the crossovers in this speaker aren't too complicated and shouldn't be that difficult to recap (and it might be a good opportunity to teach yourself to solder). If you're still happy with the sound of your Monitor 10s then I would guess that there is something wrong with the 7c's and recapping might be the fix. Repairing shouldn't be all that expensive, though. You don't have to use super-expensive capacitors. You might want to ask on the Polk Audio forum for more advice, but I'm sure there are many people on this forum that have done it also.
 
I think you'll like the Infinitys. They're probably the last ones Harman will ever make. As close to the Revel sound as one is likely to get without spending big money. And the price is definitely right.
 
These look like the successors to the well regarded, well reviewed Primus series speakers. If the R162 is an evolution/improvement on the Primus 160/162/163, then it may well be a pretty special bookshelf speaker.

When the Reference series first came out they were running twice the price (MSRP) of the Primus line, speaker for speaker. And both lines were being sold simultaneously. I think that now the References are being discontinued.
 
As you alluded to above, Harman doesn't seem to have much use for Infinity's home speaker line any more. JBL seems to be filling that niche (they even had CMMD drivers on some of their speakers).

Maybe an opportunity in the near future to buy them on a closeout?
