Infinity Reference 2 speaker sudden static

I have been listening to quite a lot of vinyl lately and as such I have noticed an alarming event every so often during my session. Without warning my right speaker will "explode" into a static fit overdriving my right woofer and producing very loud static noises. I have to jump up and quickly turn off my receiver for fear of damaging a speaker. If I turn down the volume, the noise does not disappear and actually continues at the same volume. I am going to try and switch the speaker ports now and see if the problem follows the speaker. Anyone know what this may be?

It's your receiver, and since the volume setting doesn't affect it, almost definitely a problem in the amplifier section.
