Hello

Just wondering what a pair of Infinity Renaissance 90 in Piano Gloss Black finnish are worth these days? Would anyone know how much more the piano gloss black versions were originally than the oak finish?

Good luck, I've never seen a pair in gloss black for sale, except once in Europe. I want to say that it was a $1000 upgrade. I have a nearly like-new pair in blonde oak and love them, one of the most beautiful speakers IMO. They tend to sell for between $1000 and $2000 depending on condition and who wants em.
 
IIRC a pair was recently on Ebay (only the 2nd pair I have seen on the various for sale sites in the last 3 years or so) for around $2000, but didn't get any bids. In a better economy I am sure they would have been gone quickly. If they would have been within driving distance and I didn't have so many other projects zapping my bank account they would have been mine. The gloss black Ren 90 is definitely on my list of most desirable speakers.
 
I know the black ash (or is it "black oak") ones you are referring to as well as a pair of light oak, but I also recently saw a pair of gloss black (though it might not have been Ebay, can't recall). Regardless, you are right. They almost never show up for sale and are always $2000+ (usually lots of +).
 
Based on the pictures I've seen of Ren 90's in piano black, and what I know about how they sound, they would be well worth $2000+. My Ren 90's are the one speaker that I have felt no need to upgrade.
 
Thanks for the replies. Inspiribomb, you must be my good luck charm. Never say never, but you are right, they are rare. I picked up the Ren 90's last nite, had purchased them the previous evening. They are in near mint condition with the exception of the rotting foam behind the EMIM's on the cabinets. I purchased them from the original owner for $1000.00 with all the papers-manual, brochure, etc. They had been listed locally for almost 3 weeks and no one had even gone to look at them, the woman I bought them from told me. However she had them listed as Infinity Renaissance and forgot to include the 90 in the ad listing. My wife likes them so much (black gloss laquer finish) that I think my RSII b's will be moved down stairs and replaced in the living room by the Ren's.

Holy crap, I think you are the 1 and only person on AK to have ever owned, maybe even SEEN, piano black Ren 90's. I congratulate you, and must admit that I am a bit envious. Where in the world are you located? If you were even semi-local, I would love the opportunity to see/hear your beautiful speakers.
 
With the tools available here at AK, I linked to the site that says the standard version was $5000 and the limited edition high gloss piano (b)lack version was...$9000.

So there was a piano black version and it cost $4000 more than the standard speakers.

That piano black paint must be from NASA. Painting two big speakers in high gloss piano black cost $500 in my area.
 
Egads....a $4000 paint option! Nice work grabbing those speakers. Around here, they wouldn't have gone un-looked at for three weeks, at least not if they were listed on Craigslist. Those are some of my dream speakers. Congratulations and please tell us how they sound when you get a chance.
 
$1000!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!

A few months after I bought my 9 Kappas at the Rhein Main Audio/Video club (US military PX), I was there with a friend of mine to pick up a pair of B&W DM640s and saw the Ren 90's in gloss black. IIRC the price for the standard finish was $2100 (my 9 Kappas had been $1900 with an MSRP of $3400) and the gloss black was $2900, or maybe $3100. Based on these prices I would guess that the MSRP for the Ren 90s was around $4000, and the gloss black was $5000. If I knew then what I know now, I would have sold my 9 Kappas and bought the gloss black Ren 90s. However, back then I was young and easily seduced by the multiple 12"s of the Kappas.
