Infinity RS 2.5 cabinet redesign / reconstruction

I need some help. I'm using the Watkin's woofers from a set of Infinity RS 2.5's I bought on ebay. I've already had them refoamed professionally, so now it's time to start building the cabinets.

I was hoping somebody could give me or direct me to the information about how to find the cubic feet required for this woofer. I would take inside or outside dimensions of the RS 2.5 woofer box. Also any information about the inside of the box. Thickness above 3/4", baffles, bracing, etc. Pictures would even be great. I'm not going to build a replica of the RS 2.5 cabinets. These need to look more modern and be more stable then what Infinity designed.

I want to put these to good use again. I do have Emit tweets and Infinity Mids to use with them as well. Just starting with the woofer right now.

The external dimensions are 18" wide X 33 " high X 11" deep. The top and bottom edges are radiused, so that will take off a bit of volume as well.

Hey wwiztab that's a noble undertaking. The art of speaker building is in the enclosure itself. If you want the same sound from them as the RS 2.5 had you will need to do some homework. I have some software that I downloaded a while back, or their are some good books on the subject, the good old radio shack "Building Speaker Enclosures" book was $1.25 when I bought it. That will tell my age to some of ya'll, but it's still as good as ever for a newbe. Do a search on building speaker enclosures and you'll find lots of info....... Also look at www.partsexpress.com they have a great DIY forum for building speakers, lots of good info. Hope that helps........

I'm not sure how the cabinet could be redesigned.
The crossover point of 300Hz sort of dictates the "wide" baffle which faciitates the Emims reproducing the fairly low frequency range of 300Hz and up...from what I understand of planar drivers....the overall dimensions of the RS 2.5/4.5 seem ideal:)
 
You could always go with an RS-style curved baffle like in the RS1 and RS2b models. That way you get the needed width in a slightly smaller package, with reduced diffraction effects, and it looks cool too!

A bit of a tougher build, though.

Thanks for all the information and thoughts.

I'm actually just using the Watkins woofer in this new speaker design. The mid and tweet I'm going to try is from a set of RSB's somebody parted out on ebay as well.

I just needed to know the recommended cubic feet for the woofer so I can start the design of the cabinet. Since I have that now I can move forward.

I'm going to have to do some crossover tweeking I'm sure to get the sound right. But hey, that should be the fun part.

I do plan to bi amp these as well. From what I've read about the Watkins it's probably a good idea.

It seems to me, with those drivers, you'd actually be designing a cabinet for the RS 1.5 which is a smaller cabinet than that of the 2.5:)
 
Tubed, you are right. I'm not sure why I didn't see these. I've been through those infinity classics pages so many times it just slipped by. That gives me the crossover design as well. Thanks so much for pointing these out.
 
You'll have a different low end performance though with that smaller 1.5 vs the 2.5 enclosure.

Have both RS 2.5 and RS 1.5's and both do a heck of a job on the low end. If anything the 1.5 sounds bass heavy and overwhelms the mids and highs in our bedroom, part of that could be room size though.
