Hi guys,

I’m trying to find a replacement for the midrange pots, I already tried to cleaning with Deoxit but they’re in really bad shape and producing cracking noises all the way, any replacement recommendations please.

I'd try just overriding them completely, and then look to replace them only if the midrange seems too forward. It's probably about a 4dB difference between lowest and highest setting.

Easiest way is to jumper the two wires connecting to the pot. If you have some clip leads you can just use those for testing before you make the change permanent.

BTW, I'm basing this on the RS4B data sheet, which shows only two wires going to the pot. If it's got 3 wires (Infinity was notorious for changing designs during production) then it could be an L-pad and overriding it isn't so simple.

Your speakers can work just as well without pots (actually, better) if the resulting midrange-forward sound agrees with you, but I'd recommend putting in new ones anyway, if only for resale value's sake. Empty holes where knobs should be isn't a great sales argument :)

My RS4b use a 5 ohm/15 Watt midrange pot with two wires connected. Pop the back off and apply a liberal dose of dielectric grease to the copper "ridge" and work the knob back and forth a bazillion times then put the cover back on - it should work just fine. The online data sheets you'll find are just about useless (all wrong)

I did have to replace the 5 ohm/5 watt pot for the tweeters (and a new knob) and while I was in there replacing the electrolytic caps I put in 5 way connectors (I broke the spring clip connectors out and drilled some holes- Ive had these speakers for 40 years and always hated those cheap spring clips !.
