Infinity TSS-SUB4000 12" powered sub for $200, worth it?

Plate amps mounted on a sub enclosure seem prone to dying young. Note that the warranty for the sub's electronics is shorter than for the rest of the system.

I have a nice 12 inch Infinity sub with a dead plate amp sitting in my storage right now. It's not the only one either. There's a JBL and at least two others out there in the same boat.

I'm seriously considering altering any future subs that come my way so the amp is separated from the sub enclosure.

I too have a dead infinity sub where the plate amp distorts oddly. I need to get around to fixing it.

The plate amps are very prone to failure.

$200 seems like a good deal though. Just test it with sine wave tones for distortion, voice coil rub or any other problems.

I might go check it out if you are in the market for a sub.

i have to agree, i have 3 dead plate amps too
all on 12" subs

need to find a crossover and use them with a spare amp

Either way I appreciate you reminding me of the subwoofer.

I fixed up the plate amp and now it is back up and running!

If you have a dead plate amp check the power resistors dissipating the main filter capacitors. They will get hot and cause cracked solder joints around the area. They can also break capacitors with heat.

Good luck!
