I wish I lived in the area, if I did I'd definitely visit his shop. I did actually email him the other day, I had wanted him to confirm some questions I had such as 3.3 ohms being the minimum impedance value of the Ren 90's (as stated in the review of Ren 90's in German Audio magazine May 1992) and how the Ren 90's compare to the Kappa 9.2i as there was a debate on the two models over at the Yahoo site Infinity group (12" woofer of Kappa 9.2i has more bass than 10" woofer on Ren 90's). Of course, I sided with the Ren 90's :)

I'm still waiting for his reply, perhaps you can remind him next time you speak with him.

lol....

I posted this under another thread, but it was an older one that had already run its course.....

Last week, I stumbled into a local stereo shop, Watkins Stereo. Chatted with Bill, ended up being 2-hours later before I got out of there. Fascinating, I think I learned more those two hours than I had all week doing anything else.....

I live in Bristol and have never made it in there although I have seen the place many times. Real dumb question, do they still mfg their own line of speakers?

Not anymore....

Mr. Watkins will still maintain his speakers for those that own them, but he doesn't make new ones anymore. His shop has a lot of Klipsch and Yamaha in there.

PS!!!!

rstsgsas or Wideone:

Do either of you know of any decent shops to browse through old radio equipment anywhere in the Tri-Cities??

I've been to Mr. Toads, Watkins, Soundroom so far, and no luck for what I'm looking for.....

Any thoughts on where to look further? Pawn shops in this area seem to focus on guns, gold, and tools.... nothing much else, really....

Thx....

Inbright, I'm no help there. I have only found things twice:
Heaven of Rest big yardsale Infinity QB's for $25
and a church sale primo pair of Pioneer CS99A's for $40
Thought I was on a hot streak, but nothing since. I have tried some of the second hand stores in Johnson City but no luck.
