info please on Advent Legacys and Maestros

I'm interested in learning about the Advent Legacy and Maestro lines-

I know the Legacys came at least 3 series- 1, 2 and 3, the series 1s with an 8" woofer, the 2s and 3s with a 10" woofer. All 3 seem to have a dome tweeter, but all 3 of different designs.

The Maestros seem to be a much rarer speaker- a 3-way Advent version of the Legacy.

Lastly, the cabinets, at least in regards to the Legacys, seem to range from a large bookshelf, and sometimes a floorstander, but it doesn't seem to correlate with one particuliar modl- seems a series 3 could be of one or the other.

I have the Leagacy II's with a 10" woofer. They are a fine sounding pair, not spectacular, but very solid in their performance. Pretty good low end, and good highs and mids. They are not as dynamic as the large Advents or Advent 1's IMO. Regarding the other metioned pair someone else will have to chime in...

I don't think they were an 8" ever. Mine are not series II and are a 10", and they look like all the other Legacy models I've seen (except tweeter).
The Prodigy series was 8".
They're probably smoother than the original Large Advents owing to the silk dome tweeter.
They're about the same size as the LAs, but wider, and seem to be designed as a floor stander but I'd recommend 8-10 inch stands for them, since tilting doesn't seem to do it.

Wank, might have been a short run with the 8" woofer- below are auctions for a pair of Legacys with 8" woofer and a pair of woofers, 8", pulled from a Legacy. Seems maybe later first series Legacys had started as an 8" and then went to a 10"? The Legacy 2 and 3 series seems to be all 10" woofers.

By the way, I've been told they came as both 6 and 8 ohms, the Maestros 6 ohms exclusively. Hmmm...

Well I guess you learn something everyday.
I recall now that there is a new line of Advents called Legacy xx (with model numbers). But that last pair I'm guessing are 10" - becaust the cone outside diameter is 8" on that driver.
But so I was wrong. I'm perfectly comfortable with that.

You might also consider the Advent 5002. They fly under the radar but are really nice sounding speakers.

There is a lot confusion on that series of Advents! I am no expert but I check the auctions often for "Advents". I have been at it for a couple of years so I have seen examples of most all the models from this line of Advents (made by Jensen). Most of them don't have tags to designate the models unless it was just a little paper sticker on the back.

The Legacies had 10 inch woofers. Wank is right....There was a two way series with 8 inch woofers called the Prodigy. It looked just like the legacies but had a little smaller cabinet and the 8 inch woofers. There was also the Prodigy Towers that are nice 8 inch two ways in a taller cabinet. I think the picture is of a Prodigy and the seller is just guessing it's a Legacy? I am not going to swear that though! I think the Maestros had twin woofers (8 inch)? Best! Franksta

I'll take your word for it about woofer size. ebay sellers have been wrong before- I believe you guys over the sales claims- not the first time something has been listed wrong there, eh? It's just not the first time I've seen a Legacy listed with an 8" woofer, or a parts woofer at 8" supposedly from a Legacy.

Have yours been 6 ohms or 8 ohms? I've seen 'em claimed as both from reliable sources.

Doucanoe, thanks for posting the pics of the Maestros. How would you compare the sound of the Maestros to the Legacys? Down the road I'd possibly like to replace my Baby advent 2s with one or the other.

I had a chance to get a paiir locally a month or two ago for $100- the seller, I think, had inherited a bunch of audiophile gear- knew little of what he had really, with Magneplanars and the Maestros and others taking up room in from what I gathered, his small but nice, upperclass city apartment/condo. A nervous sort, he and I talked about the gear he had, he asked lots of questions, but I was worried that at any moment he was going to have an anxiety attack- stammering, shaky sort, the poor fella. He backed down from the sales of his gear due to issues with his nervousness I believe- too many phonecalls from strangers?

Well, I cant say that I have heard the Legacys but I did enjoy the Maestros in a second system while I owned them. I never compared them to others I owned at the time but they never made me want to throw them out the window.

I would say that throwing a ample amount of clean power at them made them sing nicely.
