I am considering placing 2.5 to 4 amp fast blow inline on my Fisher RS-Z1 receivers speaker output.150 watt ch @ 4 ohm. The speakers are B&W DM640i rated at 200 watts / 4 ohm. This would be a small insurance policy in case some unknown issue arises with speaker drivers to protect amplifier. Has anyone done this and what would be your recommendations?

adding fuses would more likely protect the speakers .
I’m thinking in case of a coil meltdown, which has happened to me before, to protect the amp from a dead short.

and that was caused by what ?
Ummmm playing too loud maybe? Speaker coils can get a little hot at 110dB @10ft.

yes they can and do get very hot when pushed hard .
I don’t do it often but sometimes I really get into the music and am wondering if a fuse would be beneficial to my amplifier. I had an old B&W DM640i woofer coil go in dramatic fashion with fire and smoke. Fourtunately there was no damage to amplifier that I’m aware of.

it is more likely the amplifier burning the speakers and then shorting them out then the amp blowing up in your case .
best way i found is adding a compressor limiter to the chain just before the amp . speakers and amp have both survived since .
