I had an LP by a instumental band The Aquanauts out of California in the early to mid 60's around the time The Ventures were playing and I'm trying to find some info on them.15 yrs ago I began to collect all the LP's of 50's-60's instrumentals from those groups of that era that I could find and have amassed a vast collection of most of the better known groups such as Ventures,Johnny and the Hurricanes,Champs,Chantays,Rebels,Duane Eddy,Dave Baby Cortez,Booker T and the MG's,Sandy Nelson and so forth.Have many more too numerous to list but can't seem to find anything on these guys The Aquanauts.I f anyone can help I'd appreciate it greatly and if anyone else loves to collect this maybe they could add their lists on another post or not......Thanks People......Rick...P/S The Shadows/Rise and fall of Flingle Bunt etal...........

check it out, it's called 'Potato Hole"

There is a guy in south Florida who is a stellar surf guitarist and somewhat of a historian. he does a surf radio show also. He may be able to hook you up

As indicated above (Tarl...), there was a band named Aquanauts operating out of Lancaster, CA during the 60s. I checked my inventory and I do have a single (45) by a band named Aquanauts, but this outfit operated out of the great state of Indiana during the early 60s. That said, the content of their single is surf music, and titles include Rumble On The Rocks and Bombora. Either/both of these song titles sound familiar to you? The Indiana band, AFAIK, did not release an LP.

Thanks guys,I did have one LP by The Aquanauts for sure and I believe they were out of Calfornia.As I recall I loved the Ventures but when I heard these guys I really thought they would be stiff competition,what did I know..lolol.Also if I remember correctly they used a lot of echo or reverb in their tunes more so than the Ventures......Rick
 
The Ventures were a tad square compared to many surf/biker bands.

Still, their early stuff on the Dolton label was inspired.

"The Ventures in Space" (Dolton 1964) is my fave, introducing the space element into surf rock. Darn near psychedelia. Avoid the Liberty and Pickwick re-issues as they are missing tracks.

I agree. It sounds like a private or small, local label effort. Some of my favorite LPs entered the world in that fashion.

Has anyone checked GEMM or Music Stack for this LP? :scratch2:
 
I did not check Gemm or musicstack. Did come up with the Reluctent Aquanauts. No connection to the Harding name either. Value on the 45's let's say low end six pack of Hiney, high end a case. that's another type of record person. I would just like to hear how they sound. I do like surf music.

Yep, that band's all over the web.

I checked GEMM & MS, only came up with a comp LP titled Surfer's Mood Vol 2, which includes a track by the Aquanauts, the Indiana band, not the band out of Lancaster, CA.

Sounds like it might be a pretty rare LP. Might have only been sold at gigs locally and might have only been the only one they ever had pressed.
