Hi, I picked up a vintage perreaux SA3 preamp and an accompanying perreaux amp, the PMF 1150B. I can't find out that much about these ( the perreaux web site has limited info), and I wondered if there is a good cable match for these pieces. You should know I am generally looking for low cost (read cheap!) options. I use petras cables for my turntables and am happy with those. Thanks in advance for helpful suggestions. Norm

Agreed. I've owned many Perreaux amps, currently have an 1150b, SM4, 3000B. They aren't fussy about cables. Anything that's not thin cheap cable will be fine.
My original set came with some HK cables of some kind. They're about 30 years old and still still in my main system between the NAD pre and Quad power.
Don't worry about the cables so much. Make your own decent ones, or buy some decent ones second hand. Anything will do.

The SA3 is a very high quaility (no holds barred) pure Class A preamplifier. The power supply is large (18,800 mfd of filtering) providing high performance potential.
All components are hand selected and tested. Gold plated Input/Output sockets are used throughout. The SA3 employs polypropelene and polycabonate capacitors Ihroughout the signal path for greater sound quality. Electrostatic discharge proof (ESD) transistors maintain the lowest possible noise level at all times. The inputs/outputs on the rear panel are as follows.
PHONO INPUTS: The phono inputs on the SA3 are flexible being switchable between high/low gain to accept the output of any cartridge. Well if cables affect the sound, I would then consider going with as short as reasonably possible? If the two are close together, don't buy a one meter interconnect? Like if they have an affect, less has less? I would maybe look at clean connections. Clean the connectors with alcohol and then when dry apply some sort of treatment that preserves connections like Caig stuff. For long term reliability. Then enjoy. Or spend days and weeks auditioning 2000$ interconnects and straining to hear which one seems to be the best. And sell the rejects online for 50% off so you are only out a few thou. You are rich, arent you?

Should cost about $35 for a three foot set of cables. Just make sure your preamp is two feet or a little more away from any other components that have transformers etc or you will be susceptable to hum from your speakers. I doubt you will find any better cables cheaper than these.
