I’ve had these apparently very rare speakers for a few years and really enjoy them. To me, they seem like an early inspiration for the Dynaco A25. I thought I would post some pics in case anyone is interested.
The speaker is the Model One by KSC/SEAS. This was apparently a very short-lived company, based out of New York City, that imported SEAS drivers from Norway and installed them into custom-built cabinets. Very similar to what ADS did in the 70s. The drivers are date-stamped 1963. This speaker uses an early version of the same woofer that went into the A25. It also uses a SEAS mid range and tweeter. Jensen capacitors are in the crossover, just like the A25.
There were lokely no more than a couple thousand pairs of these speakers made, probably only in the one year of 1963/64. My serials numbers are in the 400’s, and I saw one other pair online with serials in the 1600’s.
I also have a pair of A25s, so I can comment a little bit on how they compare. I would say the KSC speakers are bit less precise but warmer than the A25. I listen to each pair on a Scott 222C. For nostalgia’s sake, I like pairing the older speaker with the Scott.
Here are some specifics on the drivers:
Woofer: SEAS 25 TV-E
Midrange: SEAS 9-M
Tweeter: SEAS 9-HFT
The crossover uses Jensen 72uf, 12uf, and 5uf capacitors.
If anyone has any information, I would love to hear it. I found a 1964 review online from an audio magazine that was quite favorable. I’d be curious to know what other speakers were using SEAS drivers in the early 1960’s. Thanks.
