Interesting Find... Proton 313 Powered Speakers

Picked up a pair of Proton 313 Powered Speakers, they each have a 100W amp, they have 3 drivers all intact and in good shape, no cosmetic issues and other than the input sensitivity dial being scratchy when turned they sound good, I initially tested them with my iPhoneX with an 3.5mm to RCA, once I moved the input dials back and forth a bit and set them at mid level they were fine. I also purchased a Proton 601T Stereo Video Tuner which can be used as a preamp, which works and is also in very nice shape, I already own a Proton D940 Receiver and like Proton stuff, it’s not the best but it’s good and most of the stuff looks really cool! Hell, they used all Proton gear in the original Robocop movie! Definitely happy with my purchase, I know I’ll get use out of both of these too. It’s always nice to have a solid pair of powered speakers.

Interesting, did not know Proton made powered speakers; seems they made a little of everything, though. I bet those sound good.

Thanks for posting the 601T pic. I bought one of those in 84(?) for stereo TV and was happy with it for many years. I still have it packed away for use as a preamp as well one day. I don’t know if there is a gear drive or belt to operate the door; it it’s a belt, it is definitely goo by now.

Yea the motor on the door works but it won’t open, I hear it when I press the open close button but I’m sure the belt needs fixed, fortunately it can still be easily pried open and all the functions work as they should. Doubt there are many of these speakers around nor are there many 601T’s, that 601T is a decent preamp, didn’t even know it had bass, treble & balance controls until I got it home, there was very little info on both the 313s as well as the 601T, I’m definitely happy with the purchase and glad to add a couple more Proton pieces to my collection. I’ve focused my buying on mostly 80’s & early 80’s stuff, I mean I’ll buy anything if it’s a great deal but I really like
The 80’s & 90’s stuff. It can still be gotten for more reasonable prices, the silver face stuff & tube stuff is tough to get deals on anymore, it’s so easy to find out what things are worth & if there is a great deal if you don’t see it within minutes of it being posted you’ll miss out on it and someone will buy it & repost it on the same site for 5x what they paid. I see it all the time.
 
I have the Proton 300 table radio. It's mono, but they made an auxiliary speaker for it, the 301, to provide stereo. It's a powered speaker.

I found 2 of the 301 speakers at a thrift shop within a week of each other; cost about 5-10 each. Voila, I had a pair of powered speakers, using Proton amps inside, and they don't need the 300 radio: they'll accept any input. They're 2-ways, and it looks like Proton just added a second woofer OP's speakers to beef up the bass.

They sound really good. I keep meaning to replace the cone tweeters (with domes or AMT's) but haven't gotten round to it.

The 300 sounds way better than it should.
 
^^ The 300, used with a 301 speaker, can be used as a complete Stereo system. All you need is a "source switcher" to connect other sources (the Tuner is built-into the 300). I used mine briefly when moving house and my main system was boxed up. I could play CD, Tape, and even Vinyl (with a phono preamp connected). SQ was very satisfying, not a compromise at all. Very space-effective too.
