Interesting find with the Sony TA-4650

Interesting - I scored one of these and a TAN-5550 in an auction here in NZ - it was expensive - but they never come up here.

I am in a different city to where the gear is - my mate collected and tested. The TAN-5550 was fine and had its proper 2SK60 and 2sj18 outputs. The TA-4650 also worked fine - but once my mate checked the outputs.....(see pics below).

So I guess that these can be re-powered after all. Or was it just me that was under the impression that they could not?

Very luckily the seller is a nice guy and he has ANOTHER TA-4650, which my mate will test tonite. Seller looked last nite and confirmed that this one has the CORRECT VFET outputs.

Interesting indeed! Enhancement mode MOS FET's can't play where depletion mode V-FET's play without some serious mods to the drive circuitry.

As the saying goes, where there's a will there's a way.
