Interesting speakers and radios - Missouri CLs

Wow, that Zenith is a steal, not sure what model but the chairsides are not that common. Sheesh. Wish I had a reason to go to Carthage.

Please don't tempt me. I really don't want to spend the money, and I really don't have any place to put it, but that art deco cabinet is too cool.

hehe you do need it, I say the same thing over and over again but I can never pass up a steal. I just waited 4hrs for one last weekend, and the radio before that was a black dial that I got for 5$. We have a horrible disease. Trust me I just spent the last 3hrs trying to figure out what was wrong with my tt, just to see a small piece of plastic wrap stuck in one of the gears.

wow that Zenith would be gone by now if I lived nearby...robot dials are rare enough, robot dial chairsides are even rarer. That one is easily worth 10x the asking price.

Looking at the dial photo at the Radiomuseum link, it doesn't look like a shutter dial. This seems to be one of the more simple Zenith chassis of the era.

6 series is a 6-tuber, pretty basic chassis. Still not common, and if I wasn't on austerity measures, I'd seriously consider it.

Nice radio! Haven't seen one like that before. Now I need my pipe, newspaper, glass of wine and an ottoman. :)

Ohms are probably best described as east coast -- aiming at neutral, but perhaps less neutered than some east coast speakers. I believe those might be the Ls, which were Ohm's attempt to make a speaker to compete with the Large Advent, but more efficient, and in a smaller box. Pretty successful attempt, based on the two pairs I've owned over the years.

That Silvertone radio/grandfather clock is cool, although a bit high for my wallet. I have two similar ones from that era: A 5-tube Crosley with nice art nuveau styling, and the big Westinghouse WR8, which to me is the king of the hill. Chassis from top to bottom, PP 45 outputs, close to 6 ft. tall, weighs a ton. Sleek monolithic cabinet makes it look like a skyscraper. Hard to beat that for sheer gravitas.

You have a WR-8?!? Outside of a Sparton Bluebird, that's my ultimate radio.

Find a Sparton Bluebird and I'll trade ya.

Bought it from my wife's uncle in NE a couple years ago. He had it playing in his shop for years, broke a 45 which I replaced for him, and not too long after that decided to lighten his load and asked if I was interested. It needs a bit of veneer chip work here and there, clock doesn't run, and the brass tuning window escutcheon is missing, but other than that, in great shape and working. Needless to say I'm happy to keep it in the family. :thmbsp:

BTW I paid less than they're asking for that Silvertone.

Sorry for the hijack.

Yeah, the Silvertone is too expensive, but I thought it was cool enough to warrant posting. If you haven't seen it, there's a great WR-8 restoration thread at Videokarma.

Deffly appreciate the posting, and you can always offer less than asking anyway.

I'll have to check out the VK thread. I forget to go over there.
