Hey all,
Intro time... Hope everyone's having a great day so far. I've lurked for a while but a recent restoration project prompted me to finally join. I bought a working Sansui AU-717 in the fall of last year from a nice gentleman advertising on craigslist. Everything was good until a one day s few weeks ago the left channel stopped working.
I'm handy (or so I like to think) and have a growing interest in the electrical component side of audio and thus have been slowly been buying inexpensive test equipment when I can find it even if I don't know how to use it. To date I have bought the following: Analog Oscilliscope, Fluke dmm, Analog mm, iso transformer, and a variac. I've owned a soldering station for a number of years and I just pulled the trigger finally on a Hakko de-soldering gun at the beginning of the year. Before this I only had ever replaced a few caps in a console stereo.
This Sansui project is not for the timid hobbyist or faint of heart, it requires lots of research, excellent organization, heaps of documentation and photos of everything. The research part brought me here to AK and to Leestereo's excellent restoration guide. With the added help of posts by users Crumbs, Hyperion, and others, I fully restored my Sansui AU-717. Additionally, I added a number of skills and learned quite a lot about how components work. I don't believe I could have done this restoration without this forum or it's members. It's clear there are a number of good people here willing to share there knowledge and experience. Hopefully I can contribute in a meaningful way. Thank you all, LLA

Analog Player - Marantz 6100
