iPad 2 -> USB -> D100 ???

Hi All,
I'm currently streaming audio from my IPad to D100 via Audiengine B1/Spdif connection. Decided to purchase the Apple Airport Express to see if there is a sound difference between the two.

While I'm waiting for Airport Express, im trying to connected my IPad2 to D100 via USB cable utilising Apple CCK.

IPad2 via CCK -> USB Cable -> D100 -> C45 -> MC352

For some reason I don't get any sound coming out the above configuration.

Am I missing something ?
Thx... AJ

Found solution online to my own question:
The IPad2 needs a powered USB hub to work and steam music

IPad2 -> CCK -> USB Powered Hub> USB cable -> D100...
Just tested and it work !

With iPhone6 the USB cable works without powered hub.

Iphone6 -> lightning CCK -> USB Cable -> D100

It must have something to do with older generation iDevices that cannot power USB connection on their own.

My iPad 3 works fine with the camera connection kit to the D100. The bad thing about playing music this way is your not charging the device.

Don't know much about the iPads, but does the iPad2 have the 30 pin connector? If so, then the Pure i-20 dock should work perfectly to send files to D100 via coax or toslink. Has a remote and charges the device.

Thank you for your inputs. Files on IPhone / IPad seem to be resident - Turned wifi and cellular off and I was able to play music.
Yes, the IPad3 has the large connector. It seems only older devices need a USB powered hub.
Already tested:
- iPhone/iPad -> AudioEngine B1 Bluetooth via Spdif to D100 - Works well!
- iPhone/IPad & CCK + USB cable to D100 - Works well but don't like to be tied to cable.
Will be testing :
- iPhone/iPad -> Airport Express (16/44.1) & Apple TV (16/48) via Spdif to D100
Was thinking about using AE just for music and ATV for movie, both connected via Spdif to D100. Although I doubt I'll be able to hear a difference between AE and ATV.
- Also looking into JRiver with music library on Synology NAS.
