iPod Touch won't connect to iTunes

The computer (PC) beeps when I plug the Touch into the USB cable. It charges up fine. It plays fine through headphones and through USB cable to my vehicle radio and to my Pioneer receiver. I've tried two different computers - laptop running Windows 10 and old desktop running XP. Have udpdated iTunes. Have deleted itunes and reinstalled it. Have called Apple Support. Young lady was very nice, and tried everything she could (reset device manager, uninstalled drivers and reinstalled, had me shut down the computer and reboot a few times after changes. Nothing worked. Got moved up the ladder to a nice man, who also tried everything. Final word from them was "Sorry, it's old enough that we don't really support it anymore, and we don't know what else to try." Ooooo kay.... This wouldn't be so bad, but my last update of the music was to put a bunch of Christmas music on the thing. I'm getting tired of those, and I can't put my newest albums in.

Anyone have any ideas? My last effort would be to refresh/reset the iPod and reload everything. I'm just afraid if I reset it I'll still have the same problem and then won't have ANY music on it.

I had it happen with a mini, and doing a hard reset on the iPod fixed it.
You may also want to try a different cable. Sometimes they can be finicky (or just plain fail).

Thought I had mentioned that I had tried a different cable that seems to work well with no joy. Just forgot to add that in the original post. Good idea, though, and one that should always be mentioned when this sort of problem crops up. Thanks.

Well, the soft reset didn't work. Resorted to a complete factory reset with hopes that I didn't end up with a nice, shiny paperweight. It worked - kinda. I still can't get it to connect on my desktop PC. The laptop pulled it up, though. The desktop is an OLD pc - maybe 15 years old? I'm assembling a newer one now, so I have hopes that I can connect to the newer box.

Thanks for the help.
