Is Holly a German Shepherd Coyote mix?

Some of these coyote dogs with their piercing eyes have me wondering about Holly.

Show her this picture. You'll soon know if she has coyote blood!

Shepherds have a broad color variation--from white, to full blonde, various combinations of blonde/black to all black, but the saddle is correct. The stance in that photo is also correct for the breed standard. The facial structure/features do seem a little "off", and the paws (especially the front ones) seem a little small. I have a large, mostly black over blonde male pure-bred Shepherd and his facial structure is much "different". The caveat being that mine is from a breeder and bloodlines that are specifically bred for law enforcement/military service--so he is on the large end of the breed standard, and male Shepherds are generally larger than females and have distinctly more angular features. He does bark like hell, rarely growls and in the 11 years he has been with me, has never "howled". With the rampant coyote population here in PA, it would not surprise me if you got a "cross".

A little off-topic--there was recently an article on the internet of a guy that adopted a "free puppy" from a local homeowner with a litter. Had the dog as a housepet for nearly a year, but was noticing "strange" behaviors, so took it to the local Animal Shelter/Clinic to have it checked out--upon his arrival, they immediately told him "that's not a dog--that's a wolf". Unfortunately, he was unable to keep his "dog" due to local exotic animal regulations. If I run across the link, I'll edit it into this post.

Her heritage could be important if medical issues arise.
That is one of the reasons I have been trying to determine Holly's ancestry.
It is obvious by her appearance that she is half German Shepherd.
She now weighs 80 pounds.

Holly was found wandering in SC where Carolina Dogs live in the wild.

I have had three German Shepherds in the past.
None of them have had the piercing eyes like Holly.
This breed is prone to several types of health issues unfortunately..

The Carolina Dog breed seems to have no health issues like so many of the purebred dogs and a very long lifespan.

Lifetime GSD guy clocking in. She looks like a purebred GSD to me, but maybe not one that would pass confirmation for the show ring, and I'd certainly question the ethics and methodology of the breeder.

As a rescue, none of that matters. She's beautiful, and I'm sure she's a very good girl.
