Is it OK to use a broken audio adapter with exposed metal?

Hi:

I recently purchased a 3.5mm stereo jack to 1/4" stereo plug adapter online (cheap quality). Unfortunately, it arrived damaged to the point that the protective plastic had all broken off. Long story short, I was able to get my money back and was also allowed to keep the damaged item. I am wondering if the audio adapter is still utilizable in its broken state or if it is potentially unsafe to use with all this exposed metal.

I am going to attach an image of the damaged audio adapter so that it can be better visualized.

Also, please excuse me as my knowledge in these areas is not great.

If damaged in ship, either poorly packed or poorly handled...or overlooked on orig packing.

Rule of thumb?: toss and replace, but hope you went with maybe a better adapter this time around?

Should be OK for emerg...but for the low cost, why not just turf?

I would not use the damaged adaptor.

Those adaptors are so inexpensive they are routinely included with most headphones. I have several. Every one of them came with a pair of headphones.
Amazon has plenty starting at ~$5.

Correct sir. And, for the OP, just wrap a piece of black electrical tape around it if it concerns you.

If you happen to have some 3/8 heat shrink, you could probably use that indefinitely.

Personally, I'd use it until a higher quality part arrives, at which time I'd throw it out.

Hello! First of all, if you have the possibility ask for funding from the shipping company. That is quite difficult to get but still - never hurts trying. Speaking about the audio jack - the fact that the protective plastic has peeled off is not so big a problem. Just use some rubber to isolate it and that's the trick. It won't be very pretty but will keep its functionality. For the future always order stuff from certified and trustworthy vendors. If you want cheap and good stuff look for a event equipment hire company that is selling it at an auction.
