Is it possible to add a Pre-Out/Main-In to a Kenwood KA-9X Integrated Amp??

Hi,

I'll probably get flamed on this one, but here it goes anyway...

I have two Kenwood KA-9X integrated amplifiers (1982/1983) and I was wondering if its possible for a tech to add RCA jacks for a functioning Pre-Out Main-In inputs to one of these amplifiers? The reason why I'm asking is that I want to add both a Kenwood EQ, the GE-9X and a DBX range expander, the 3BX II, to this amp since it will mainly be used for my vinyl collection.

In the past, like in the mid 80s, in my youth, I did hook up both an EQ and a range expander via the Record Selector, but for connivance, I'd like to simply use the front faceplate's push-pad input selector to go from my turntable to my reel to reel deck (Akai GX-77).

I know its an odd question, but I'd like to know. To me, it would be worth the headaches for this modification... Since this was, IMHO, the only thing missing from this integrated amplifier.

if the output level of the line stage, connections G, is at a level that will power a power amp, it appears to be possible to add the pre-power at that location. But since you are going to use it to power the internal amp the level will be fine. If the level isn't good for external amps, call it a signal processor connection. Although not the best place to put the processors as the signal level changes a lot...with the volume control...and the DBX would need to be adjust all day long but the EQ not so much.

You gonna do it? If not, contact Blaine in Duvall and he can probably evaluate it and install them if it is feasible. I ain't a tech but @blhagstrom has been working on gear for a while and will be able to read the schematic to see if he wants to tackle this for you.

Another possibility-get a DBX 200 Program Route Selector, and install it in the tape loop of the integrated amp. It will accommodate 3 processor loops. No drilling\soldering\etc.

while I don't own an eq or have done this, i'd think you could do something like this.

Back when this was my main... And only, audio system in the mid 1980s, I did use a DBX 200 Route Selector, which I still have, but was wondering about the "other possibilities," which doesn't sound too promising.

So!! back to the DBX 200!!
