Well, everyone, call it a PSA, or call it a simple "happy post" but, after years of searching, I finally found my distortion-free vinyl sound I've looked so hard for.
My girlfriend and I exchanged small gifts for Christmas and went to dinner, and she presented a small gift box to me. What I didn't expect was what was in this box. She had scrolled through all of my Amazon Wishlist, passed bits, and baubles, and bought me none other than the Nagaoka MP-110.
I was absolutely floored!
After almost replacing my old Pioneer PL-50 deck with an entirely new one due to sibilance from my old 2M Red, and simple frustration, after going through three separate carts due to distortion, from the original PC-35 that came on the deck, to a cheap AT Cart, finally to the 2M Red, I believed the fault was within the turntable, or my setup, nothing else.
It was none other than cheap cartridge choice.
I'm hearing details like never before on Van Morrison LP's, Jethro Tull, Bob Seger, and, perhaps the stand out over all of it, Dire Straits Love Over Gold.
So, as a PSA of sorts, if you're experiencing distortion, or sibilance, have a look at this cart, I cannot recommend it enough.
