Is slight base tonearm movement normal when unlocking height adjustment (Technics SL-1200 MK2)?

I recently noticed something on my Technics SL-1200 MK2 and wanted to check if it’s normal or something I should be concerned about.

When I unlock the tonearm height adjustment (the VTA ring lock), the base of the tonearm seems to shift ever so slightly—maybe around 1 mm. This only happens at the moment I move the locking lever; once it’s locked again, everything feels stable and solid.

The turntable is fitted with an Ortofon Concorde DJ cartridge, and overall performance seems fine—no audible issues or instability during playback.

Is this small movement expected due to the locking mechanism, or could it indicate wear or a problem with the VTA assembly?

I just checked mine, & have no movement. Is the locking ring that is connected under the deck tight?

No worries. It's a cam under the pivot. Just be sure that the alignment is correct with the locking mechanism locked.

If you remove the hold on the tonearm's rest, the movement may be less. There will still be a little.
