Is there a turntable belt size database somewhere?

Hi,

It's been a few times that I am looking to get belt size specs for turntables and tape deck, and all the time I get my hand on a maintenance manual, they do not give actual belt size, at best I will have only the part number.

Could not find it anywhere. I had to rely on different online store. Although most only say "will fit such model" without the size, some of them do show belt size.

But it's a pain, as each store do not have all the models and they sometimes give different specs. For example, I currently am looking for a belt on an AKAI AP-001C and so far found 3 sizes for that turntable (25", 25.35" and 25.75").

Is anyone aware of any turntable belt size database somewhere (also have same issue for tape deck belts)?

Good question....

I think another, perhaps bigger problem is that there is more to belt specs than just length. Incorrect belt width or thickness will cause turntables too run fast, too slow, or even have excessive W & F. What I would love to see is a database containing ALL belt dimensions needed both for fit, AND for correct platter speed.
 
I find the Turntablebelts.com site the most easily helpful. It's not perfect but it does have enough information for most choices.

There's a PRB file somewhere. Let me see if I can find it.

General rule of thumb for a Japanese make AC synchronous motor belt drive deck is the FR 25.7. That's because it's highly likely that it was a CEC-sourced deck and they seem to use the same size belt for everything. And the 25.7 will get you closer to pitch on those than anything else.

This is an example as to why the PRB x-ref doc is more trouble that it's worth -- when they made that doc in 2006 they weren't yet (again?) making the FR 25.7, so they listed the FRX 25.0 instead. And the 25.0 definitely won't put you at pitch on one of those decks, and will probably strain the motor to boot.

Mmmm, what I see the most is 25.75 for the AKAI AP-001 ... however I checked two stores so far and they do not carry the 25.7, so it makes sense that they probably rounded -up.

I saw that the local electronic shop in Montreal carry FR 25.7, I will give it a try.

Did not saw the 25.7 there, for the AP-001 they give 25.75 .... However they have the best prices I saw in Canada and mailing cost is low within Canada (unfortunately shipping cost from US is prohibitive for low cost items ... it is cheaper to get a small package from China than from Vermont to Montreal !)

P.S. no affiliation to them either.

Oh, you are right. It is 25.75" My bad (eyes). :)

I don't think they have ever charged for my small orders. I usually try to order several belts at once and they just send it in a regular envelope. They are close to me so I get it in a few days.
