Is There A Way To Find Turntableheads In A Given City On AudioKarma?

I have a friend who recently moved to Houston, TX, and works remotely so he does not have a workplace in which to make such connections. I have wondered about this for a while now but can't seem to figure out how to determine where folks are. It sure would be nice to be able to do a search (and if there is, please enlighten me) to hook up with fellow Turntableheads in any given location (city). Is there? I mean, I know that hovering over a user's name will sometimes show where they are (like mine) but seems like that's a hit and miss proposition. Sorry if this has been asked before (maybe even by myself!!!!) but I'm stumped.

Local meet ups are the best way, there are usually posts in the forum. You'll often get folks from the area keeping up with the meets even if they can't attend, so you'll find locals that way.

Or just make a post asking, no harm or foul on that!
 
Local meet ups would be great IF those were advertised somehow, somewhere, but I am not aware of how to find that information on AK. I've not seen any posts on this forum to the extent that describes where or when in Houston, TX those might be happening so any help in finding that out would be great! I know who I'd be calling if I were in Pondside, NH though!!! :beerchug:

It's far from complete, and since it's in the subscriber area it's confined to a minority of the AK users, but it might be a good starting point. Better than nothing, anyway.
 
Local hamfests and radio shows are a good way to meet guys with like interests,,
you may even find some parts or gear you're are looking for also!!!
 
I moved from Houston a couple years ago, and I'm pretty sure there was never any kind of AK meetup in the ten years I was there.

But there are some really good local resources that can lead him to other AKers:

Sweet Spot Records. It's near NASA on the east side of Houston. Bart Roberts, super nice guy, owns it. (There are other record stores that I didn't frequent, certainly a good place to inquire as well.)

HVRA, the vintage radio club, has monthly meetings, a huge auction in February/March, and a couple smaller auctions throughout the year. It's a few degrees of separation from there to anyone interested in audio in Houston.

Houston Creator Space, also near NASA, is a bit more of a longshot, but they have an analog electronics lab and attract some people interested in audio.

I would bump into AKers randomly in Houston hanging out at these places (or thrift stores). With 4 million people, there have to be some like-minded folks nearby.
 
Maybe post an event in events&happenings? I met the locals shortly after joining in 2010.
