Is there any "better" new type STK-0050?

I have a unit I'm thinking about putting some new IC power packs in temporarily to check it out and see if I want to do the discreet component mod to it.
Has anyone found that there are better, or least crappy new STK-0050's?
Thanks,
Brett

yeah bingo is right its been fairly well beat to death here.but its not a bad question as MAYBE someone has come up with something, it just doesnt happen to be advertised or sold on fleabay.

There is a discreet pcb thread floating around here somewhere.
I haven't owned anything that uses them in many years (think 30+)
I have been following the threads though.
I think unless you're buying a parts unit all the internet ones are fake.
There's a member on the forum who has several years ago at least , a box of stks though I have no idea whether he still has or part #s.

They are on eBay. They are on Amazon. They are at several other outlets scattered all over the www. I've used them. They work. None of them are originals. It's a dice-roll as to the quality of the reproductions.

Keep in mind, however, that even the original Sanyo modules were not all that wonderful to begin with, otherwise we would not see the literally hundreds (if not thousands) of threads related to dead STKs. If a replacement/reproduction module makes the unit run, you have succeeded in proving the repair. If you want to improve/upgrade the unit, look to the AK archives for the engineered replacement modules.

Thanks for the replies all. Sorry to bring up something that has been beaten to death. Maybe I didn't phrase my question well. I did do some searching, I didn't find anything on whether there was a quality difference in the reproductions. I found that there was nothing that compared to the originals, and I'm aware of the kits to build a discreet output. I was just trying to find out if there might be some among the new ones that were less inferior to the others.

I have half a dozen 780s. Many of them needed modules. All I've installed are the "reproduction" parts and all have worked. I wouldn't try to push any of them past a constant 30W, but they work.

This has gone back a bit in the forum but there is/was a project to make new, very robust STK-0050 packs for these amplifiers. It's doing well and the packs are very robust and better than the originals. Bonus here is that you can repair them if they do go bust again. http://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/stk-0050-replacement-for-sx-780-and-others.721181/

Maybe you want something less project-y. But these are a very good way to get solid and reliable performance out of an amp again. Just putting this here in case it comes up in a search.

As far as I know, the original STK's were made in batches and were removed from production quite quickly after the units stopped being made, but maybe I'm misremembering. STK's have moved on and have all sorts of variations. Personally I prefer discrete amplifiers because when something goes wrong, you stand a greater chance of fixing it with a part that cost less than £1/$1. Sometimes, anyway...
