Is this a good deal on a turntable?

Hello all,
I found a turntable at my local record shop. It is a Sony PS-11 with an AKG P5ED cartridge for 160 CAD (116 USD). I'm totally fine with servicing the table and cleaning it, as it is something I'm interested in learning. The cartridge is my main concern, as I don't know much about it and can't find much info. Does anyone know if this is a good deal?

The TT looks solid as for the cartridge double check it's in good working order.

Hi guys! Please, I'd like to know your opinion about the AKG P5 ED. I had an AKG P10 ED mark 2, but unfortunately in this cartridge a channel didn't work...anyway it souds very fine despite the fact that only a channel works In your opinion is the P5 ED similar to the sound of the P10 ED...

This has to be one of the most hilariously uninformed posts I’ve ever seen here. There’s no way that POS can beat any vintage direct-drive Sony.
 
The table is made of Sony’s Bulk Molding Compound. This is the same stuff as the PS-4,5,6&7. This 11 is lighter, maybe a thinner platter but it is from the 70s and most big brands didn’t make junk tables. MSRP from one source was DM399 which converts to about US$175 and that was a good entry level price for tables in 77. This should be a nicely adequate table and worth the ask. Any decent working table opens at 100 and are going higher with any improvement above the lowest one in the line. Check that it works, give it a tune up then

Put a new cartridge on it and enjoy.

Good info! Are you saying the table alone is worth the money and the existing cartridge is not worth keeping?
 
The cartridge is going to be hard to find a new stylus. The stylus condition is probably used maybe well used and might benefit from replacement. Can’t tell without microscope looking but figure a new cartridge in the near term
 
If the table is in good working order (no speed instability, etc., I would offer $100 USD and see if they bite. The AKG carts are supposed to be nice, but styli are not available. If the stylus checks out good under a scope, there’s no reason why you would need to replace it immediately.
 
Table gets pretty good reviews on Vinyl Engine, You could probably find a better deal on another table, but you'd have to wait for something to come up on facebook or CL and that could take a while. It's probably worth a C-note if you can see that it works. I've got an AKG cart around somewhere and I remember it sounding pretty good. Did you ask is the stylus is reasonably new? Also, looks like one sold on Reverb for $450, but that doesn't mean much.

Sometimes record stores sell needles and might even have a microscope. It could be worth asking. Also, do you know if the store owns the turntable or is it on consignment? Can make a difference in terms of room for negotiation.
