Is this a good value for the money?

I hope it's permissible to post this in this forum. Not sure where else to post it. Feel free to move this to the appropriate forum if there's somewhere more appropriate for it to be. I have the opportunity to purchase this and just want to know if it's a great/good/fair/not-so-good/terrible deal.

A Denon DP-1700 DD TT (Denon DP 1000 table on a 1700 Plinth) in very good to excellent condition. Boxed for many years. Works and sounds good. Has a Denon cart but don't know the model number yet. Possibly it is the stock Denon cart but can't verify. Stylus is a Stanton D680.

Asking price is $275 CAD which translates to roughly $206 USD. No shipping involved.

Thanks!

You want to get this thread moved to the Dollars and cents Forum for value questions. That being said, you must have done a google search which would tell you pretty much all you need to know. If you still aren't sure, take a look at what else you can buy for the same money and that will tell you what you want to know.

Not trying to be difficult, but trying to stay within the parameters of this forum and still tell you what you need to know.

Okay, I've reported it and asked for it to be moved.

Truth be told, there's not a lot of information on the DP-1700 to go off of. It doesn't seem to be a very common model. Not a lot of sales on eBay and other places to go by.

I agree, there isn't a lot. I had a 1200 and liked it quite a bit. It is now in BC. Hopefully this one you are looking at isn't on kijiji, because if it is, it will be gone in no time. You would be surprised at how many people look at AK to find out if something is worth buying.

Ah, It is here! One word!

RUN!

It is very good value. Hopefully still available. It is less than I paid for my 1200 and not that much more than I paid for my first turntable getting back into this, a dp-30l.

There is one on that auction site in Japan for 2 Franklins more with free shipping. Sounds like a good deal if its in good shape. Ditto on the RUN!

Got it for $240 CAD or ~$197 USD at current exchange rates. :beerchug: Unfortunately, it's in a town quite some distance from where I live so I have to wait for about a month until my friend goes to that town for work (he goes there once per month) and brings it back for me.

The thing is, I just bought a Denon 57L which is being shipped to me. I don't really have need of a second table. In time I might just throw it up on Kijiji and Canuck Audio Mart along with my DP-30L and DP 30L II turntables to see if I can maybe make a little bit on it to put towards the cost of the 57L. What I really want is a 59L though. :D

Well, I THOUGHT I needed it when I started negotiating with the guy... then something else shinier caught my eye so I bought that. But then everyone was saying this TT was such a good deal so how could I resist? :dunno:

If I do sell it and make a little bit on it, whatever I make will go towards the 57L or maybe the 59L that I REALLY want. :)

OR
you could subscribe to AK by paying $25 which helps support this place so full of helpful knowledge (as you may have already noticed) and also gain access to BarterTown where you could offer it for sale to AK'ers.
