Is this a rare Sony?

Seems like a damned good price for an SQ equipped receiver in that condition.For 95 Id definetly give it a whirl.

Very pretty indeed. The knobs remind me of the old Sansui receivers. The price seems right too.

It's pretty low power. If you're not going to take advantage of the 4-channel decoding I'd think that's a high price to pay for a receiver with that low of a wattage rating in 2 channel. Sony made good stuff back then, though.

Power output is definitely low, so I would only consider it for high sensitivity speakers. It's only 8 watts x 4, or 25 watts x 2.

There actually are quite a few really beautiful pieces of Sony gear, that probably are pretty rare to boot. Their image has been pretty tarnished, and they sell mostly junk these days, but it wasn't always that way for them.

You might want to try scoping out the middle of the line Sony stereo receivers from the early/mid seventies: the STR-6055, STR-7055, etc. They show up on CL occasionally, sometimes at bargain prices. You'd get much more bang for your buck than with this one (but not the quad novelty). You'll get about 40 watts per channel, excellent overall quality and a great tuner.
