Is this dustcover functional?

Hi guys,

I just got into turntables and bought my first turntable this week. I love the habit of manually playing each record and started hoarding vinyl already!

The only thing bothering me is the ugly square dustcover. I found this alternative on https://turntable-classics-dustcover.com/:

I like the way it looks in my modern interior but I'm not convinced by its functionality. Should I be worried about how much dust it really keeps off the critical components?

Dust goes pretty much anywhere it wants, and I imagine it could find it's way around those little covers without much problem, especially when the HVAC is running.

And what do you do with it when the deck's in use? Take it with you to the couch and use it for a back scratcher? <G>

PS ... what table?

as Tom said , other than protecting fragile parts from falling debris it's useless as a dust cover.

get / have one made that resides on the perimeter of the plinth or better yet one that covers the entire table, with provision for cable(s)

It should keep dust off the platter/mat effectively, if used consistently. It will be less effective in keeping dust off the tonearm.

A friend of mine protects his SL-1210 dustcover with a decorative cloth draped over it between sessions. Without a protective dustcover, I'd be afraid of snagging the stylus when taking the cloth off, else I'd cover my TT-15 that way.
