These are my "Tiki Lounge" custom cabinets loaded with Isophon drivers.
Picked these up a few years ago at a local indoor flea market. At first glance I thought the two cabs were some kind of a small bamboo tiki bar, until I looked around the rear and realized they were speakers.

From what I can gather Isophon did not produce furniture grade cabs in the production era of these type drivers - they only supplied cabinet designs.

I have no idea who built these cabinets but they follow the usual Isophon blueprint of putting the woofer on top & the slanted legs.

Made from solid wood, teak maybe? & covered with lacquered split bamboo.
It would be nice to someday get my old Fairchilds back and pair with these speakers!

Personally, bamboo doesn't do a whole lot for me not even while I'm on vacation. :thumbsdn:

I do like the hardware, though. :yes:
 
If they were mine, I'd be real tempted to see what that teak would look like without the bamboo and all sanded down and oiled...

I think they do look pretty cool as is, but bamboo just wouldn't fit my decor.. but if I happened to have a Tiki bar, then OH YEAH I'd have these in the room with it..

I didn't know bamboo came in that color. :D OK, that looks very intriguing but oddly unnatural. I'm sure it was nice - Salk puts out some good stuff.

The inside surfaces are pine or fir, which means they're probably plywood rather than solid wood. I can't tell from the angle of these photos what kind of wood the tops are veneered in.

Underneath the bamboo is probably the same pine or fir as the insides of the boxes.

Those would be a great match for my cabin den furniture. They'd go better than my 710s. See below. How do they sound?

Yeah, those look awesome in their awkwardness.

I always liked the look of that Isophon horn unit. How does it sound?
 
They look like a quality setup, to me.
Bamboo is a new discovery for me. The sheet goods are really easy to machine to exacting tolerances and have some characteristics that make bamboo really desirable, strength, appearance, humidity tolerance. The right decor for those would be hideous in it's own right. I remember the 50s; there were a few nice things and lots of crap, just like now I reckon.
