Issues with the Deep Groove Subplatter upgrade on original Rega Planar 2

I have searched the forums but not found my issue, so a new post. Sorry if this has been covered and I missed it.
I bought the sub platter upgrade for a s/h planar 2. Bearing swap and clean went well, but when I dropped the aluminum sub platter into place it will not spin. It is difficult to turn by hand, whereas the plastic s.p. spun freely. It is almost as though the Deep Groove is too large in diameter. Am I missing something here? I left ruby bearing in place and swapped back to original plastic, but I'd really like to get the aluminum bit to work.
Any advice accepted.

Did you lubricate it? Only takes a few drops. The sub platter is a tight fit.

Also would be worth checking with the supplier for suggestions.

Used included oil as instructed.
