It must be Sansui week

Compulsive speaker freak
I haven't found any Sansui gear in about 3 years. Earlier this week I accidentally stumbled across a 9090DB in excellent condition. Today at a yard sale I almost tripped over a QRX-7500 sitting on the ground. Plugged it in and it looked nice and lit up so it's now in my cave. I thought the 9090 was big, but the QRX-7500 is huge ! I could put legs on the QRX and make a table for the 9090DB :D

This is a really cool quad receiver with all kinds of features. I can't wait to hook up 4 of my Sansui kabiki's to it and play an old quad album or two.

Seems to be working except for static only out the right channel. I haven't played with the rear channels yet or cleaned the controls but hopefully it will be an easy fix.

Yeah the QRX line is huge and are some of the best quad and stereo receivers available IMHO, though I will admit the 9090DB is no slouch. Enjoy your scores man. :thmbsp:

You're right, there is nothing slouchy about that 9090DB. I've had a couple lower end Sansui receivers over the years but the 9090DB has a lot more "sui". I'm currently using the 9090DB in place of my Pioneer SX-780 (waiting for parts) but I may have to rethink putting the Pioneer back in rotation as the main unit.

I really don't have a good listening room layout for the QRX quad set-up. I have plenty of speakers but not the space to set one in each corner. It might be nice in my office with 4 of my smaller speakers maybe.

Should all 4 speakers be the same ?

And they don't need to be in corners. Just place them equidistant from your listening position, or as close to equidistant as you can get. That's what balance and fader controls are for.

My monster receivers are both Pioneers(SX-1010 QX-9900). But all my good speakers are 'Sui's (SP-2500's). Don't expect equal power from the rears as the fronts. They are off phase from the fronts and the only way I can explain it is ambience and specific sound effects. It fills the room, but not in the same way as a 2 channel does when you run A & B Speakers at the same time. It's like a HT setup, but a lot more basic. It will sound different from a HT setup too. So it's a sound all it's own, at least to me. YMMV.

I've got a 6500 and that thing is killer heavy. I think the 7500 might be even bigger.
Watch out for hernias.
I've done a lot of work to the 6500 and I think the insides are probably very similar.
If you need any info PM me and I may be able to help.

I'm not too far up the road from you.

I got the 7500 opened up and started cleaning the pots but ran out of deoxit before I could get all the pots cleaned. Why does this always happen after the "Shack" is closed ?

Anyway, I now have all 4 channels working in 2 channel mode but still getting a lot of static out of the right channel in quad mode. I think the problem is in the "level set" control that I didn't get to clean at all. It buried in the middle of course.

My first impression is that it sounds pretty sweet. Not a lot of power but a nice sound and lots of features for tweaking the sound.
