Its been Boston Month

jdcglasnost

EPI Tweeter Lover Boy
Just showing off, I feel in love with Boston Acoustics speakers with there A series and now I have all the ones I want (except the A150, but I'm not really hunting for it.) In the Last month I've obtianed:
A400 (not 100% original due to new cherry veneer cause the box's were beat, but all the drivers and overall shape of the boxs are good :thmbsp:)
A200
A100
A70
A40
Cost for all: $325 ($175 for the a400 and a200, the rest 150 with a sony reciever, a set of Micro Acoustics, and a sony cassette deck), all foams already done (400's need to be redone, foam seems cheap) so I think I did well in this past boston month :D...

oh yeah theres pics too, and by the way the a200's and below are being used on my home theater and the a400's are in there own stereo system bi-amped. Need any other info, I don't mind sharing. :D

Very Nice.

I have a newly acquired set of A400's myself. I would like to hear what your opinion of the A400's compared to other speakers you have.

As soon as I finish my custom stands I am building, I will post on them.

BTW, what amp are using with your A400's and how are you biwiring them.

Thanks.

A400

Right now the A400's for the low end are powered by a Parasound HCA-800II, and the high end is just an optonica SM-1515B which both get there source from a Rotel RC-870BX pre-amp (working on replacing the optonica for a "real" amp, but I havn't found what I want) with a Sony CDP-XE400 CD player and KE-500S cassette deck for sources along with my pc (audigy card, had to use the extra output somewhere ;) ). Sound wise I LOVE the speakers, I feel the bass is tight and responsive, the mids are a A- (I think a recap is in order, some male vocals don't come out like I want them), and the highs are crisp and there and stay where they should. Comparing them, well against the A200's they beat them in getting the extream lows and some of the midrange. To other brands, boston keeps the pace, if I had to pick a word to describe the sound from them right now it would be faithful.

PS: Enjoy your bostons!

OK...you are bi-amping them, I reread your post.

Right now my BA400's are taking rotating with some NLA's.

My BA400's have more bass but don't go as low as my NLA's if you can understand what I am trying to say. I was interested to hear what other BA owner's had to say.

Thanks John.

I have a pair of A-150's, but you can't have them!! Ha, mine need the woofers refoamed, so I have not used them for a while. I think I will be repairing them soon cause they really are fine sounding. Right now I am on the Advent kick, and I am looking for a pair of the origional woofers for the large Advent.

Hello. I'm new to this forum, and this is my first post.

I was surprised to find a new thread discussing exactly what I've been looking for today. (how often does that happen?)

I'm a lover of Boston Acoustics A-series as well. Congrats to the OP who scored those A200's and 400's. I've been looking for both for some time.

I currently own A70's series II, A120's, and recently refoamed A150's series II. I'm using an NAD C270 amp.

Elmer, get those A150's refoamed pronto! For the money, they are very musical and smooth. The A70's and 120's don't even come close in comparison. If you're on the east coast, I'd recommend MillerSound in PA - Bill did an incredible job refoaming the woofers and communicating with me.

Very nice BA collection. I have A150s, A60s, A120s and T830s. Got them all on the cheap and refoamed each one. They are super easy to refoam; a great sounding vintage speaker.

You did well! I've recently demoed brand new Rega and Acoustic Energy speakers next to my A400s, and both fell extremely short! The Boston A series are really under appreciated speakers.

Thanks, and to update I switched out the optonica for a "real" amp, a AudioSource AMP110, actually a very nice amp. Works great for the high end.

Had A60's, did not care for them. Now have A100's and A150's very good speakers. I have $30 total in both the 100's and 150's :D
