it's play time! MC3500 vs. MC2301

Ok, here we go! We just finished up a set of MC3500's for a customer. They look and sound fantastic! So myself being the McAddict I am I set them up with a pair of XRT1k's. What fun! This is what we should have when we have AK guys here! Then I connected the MC2301's to the system. I really think I am spoiled now! Compairing the old 350 watt mono blocks to the new 300 watt mono blocks.....they both have great sound. The MC2301's have depth, large soundstage and deep controlled bass. The MC3500 have a warmer, smoother sound but not as much depth as the MC2301's. I would have a very tough time deciding which pair I would want! Oh heck....I am addicted.....probably both!:thmbsp:

Well, that MC3500 designed by Mr Nestorovic was an unbelieveable amp (14 tubes) with a SS rectifier was a yardstick for the industry back in the late 60's.

Just like the MC2301 is today -- another point of reference has been set.

I'd take either in my listening area.

I wonder if McIntosh has done this actual comparison at their facility. I believe they have a pair of MI-350's?? Now all you need is Audio Research's 600w/ch monsters. But I dont think ganging up on ARC would be a fair unbiased comparison:D

You'll have'em for the next three weeks or so, working on some renovations at home and don’t have the time to listen to them. And I don’t need to be distracted by them.
I'll bring some interesting live jazz cd's to do some one on one comparisons

I don't know if McIntosh has ever done a comparison on this units. But we are enjoying the heck out of it! :D
 
Two sets of cool amps. I think the Mc2301s would be easier to live with though. 350/3500 is certainly the king of the 60s tube amps power wise, the sound of Woodstock.

Ryan - Thanks for the pictures!! Say who gets to lift those amps that are on the top shelf???.....do you draw straws, or do you use a dolly like Ivan has :banana:

Mc-3500's back

Hi Ryan

Tell George he did a great job and the Mc-3500's sound fantastic.
I really missed the bass authority these amps have. Very full concert hall sound. The neighbors are not happy!

Must be nice to be able to play at work! I'm a fan of new tech so I hope the verdict would be for the MC2301. Let us know.
