Alex van Halen, freshly knighted in the Order of the Dutch Lion by the mayor of his native city Nijmegen (he lived there until he was 9 before moving to the States iirc).
This kind of tradition is not my cup of tea normally, but it puts a smile on my face in this case nonetheless.

Normally people get knighted at 'lintjesdag', which roughly translates to 'ribbons day'. Its always the last working day before the Kings birthday (April 27th). The Order of the Dutch Lion is the highest Honor a civilian can get.f8470b36-97db-33bf-9232-39000c1ba2a7.jpg

Friend's great-uncle is buried in the Canadian War Cemetery near Nijmegen. A bridge too far.
