Saw a vivaldi album at the thrift the other day, but wasn't in a buying mood. Was thinking about taking a walk over there today, but kept putting it off for some reason. Finally walked over at 4:30. Found the vivaldi, found an album by the Lords of the New Church. Been building a pretty nice post-punk collection from this spot recently. Someone's been dropping some nice wax on the place.
So I'm about to head out, and as I do I take a quick glance around the donation bins. This spot has a "as soon as vinyl comes in, we put it on the floor" policy, so I typically take a look to see if there's anything that's come in. Usually, I'll go through the records if there are any there, and then take the rest over to the display area as a favor/thank you to the employees. Recently, they started to crack down on people rifling through the donation bins, as it causes a mess and headaches. Had looked on my way in, and nothing there. So when I saw the box of records that someone had left while I was examining Antonio, I figured I'd better be quick and discrete.
Started looking through the box, and saw some interesting and familiar names. Hmm, Cal Tjader. Hmmm, Bill Evans. What's that? Otis Redding?
Started a pile next to the box. Finished that box. Noticed there was a box under that labeled "records". But that was sealed, taped shut. Oh the hell with it. Tore the tape open, started going through it.
Ended up with:
Chet Baker Quartet: Jazz at Ann Arbor (red vinyl)
Jimmy Cliff: Give the people what they want
Bill Evans, Jim Hall: Undercurrent
Marvin Gaye: I want you
Marvin Gaye: Live at the London palladium
Bob Marley: Rastaman vibration
The O'Jays: Survival
The Pentangle: Sweet child
Otis Redding: Pain in my heart
Otis Redding: Complete & unbelievable dictionary of soul
Otis Redding: Tell the truth
Nina Simone: Little girl blue
Cal Tjader: Several shades of Jade
Everything's NM except the Nina Simone and chet baker. He's vg/vg+, she's a little beat up. Will do some work and see how she cleans up, but I'll never turn down Nina for $1.50.
Oh, and I got a job offer. Been looking for a year and a half.
Definitely a good day.
