Jackson Browne

I don’t like all his stuff—sometimes it gets a little too precious for me—but his enormous talents can’t be denied.

I agree. Throughout college I used to refer to his music as "More songs of Urban Angst and Suffering" and often suggested his record company include a straight razor in each album jacket so the listener could cut their wrists while listening. :D I was a real music snob in college.

But I do have an enormous amount of respect for his early work, and the fact that he gave Stevie Ray Vaughan his first serious studio time early in Vaughan's career. :thmbsp:

late for the sky and saturate before using ..his 2 best

Just as a matter of interest, Saturate Before Using is not the name of the album, it's Jackson Browne. "Saturate Before Using" appears on the canvas bag that was photographed for the cover of the album. It's saturated to allow for evaporative cooling. I heard JB in an interview one time and he sounded quite ticked that people were calling that album Saturate Before Using. He said those words had no significance.

Not even "Running On Empty", with that goofy song "The Load-Out" followed by that horrible rendition of "Stay"? Truly his low point.:thumbsdn:
I like that album. It's what brought me to his music. Now I have all of them.
It has it place with them.

I used to have a copy of it... maybe my wife has it (I've only recently started digging thoroughly through her vinyl). I'll give it another listen... I'll just flip the album when it gets to The Load Out... unless my wife is in the room.

My wife and I back in the early 70's, would light candles, get a bottle of Portuguese wine, roll a couple of fat ones (okay, maybe more than a couple) then listen to Jackson Browne.
Brings back fond memories.....of when I could still see my toes and had hair.

Steve

For one reason or another JB has always managed to stay under my radar.
Not any longer though
Bought ROE yesterday on a local fleamarket for no less that 50 cents.
Just one of those records which I can play over and over and over and ....

Would you say, you could "run it on empty"?

I thought this thread was long dead.

Is anyone seeing Laurie Anderson or David Byrne in their tours?

I've liked Jackson Browne since I first heard "Doctor My Eyes" on the jukebox where I worked in a pizza joint during High School.

Soon after that I bought ROE (LP) and played it over and over and over - soaking up the great lyrics. A truly great live album that captures the excitement of "being there".

A handful of his songs really speak to my personal experience. I really dig "Love Needs A Heart" from Running On Empty.

Some of his songs get a little precious or political, but so many are fun to sing along with - Jackson is high on my favorites list.

I've only managed to score tickets to a JB concert once - in the early 90's. It was a magical experience for me. Unfortunately, I wasn't aware enough to see who else was in the band. David Lindley wasn't on my radar back then.

If you get the chance, watch the DVD titled JACKSON BROWNE: GOING HOME. Lots of great footage of David Lindley and his polyester collection. There is a cool compilation of "Doctor My Eyes" recorded at different times and venues that never disappoints. :thmbsp:

I also liked the UNDER THE COVERS DVD that explains the story behind Jackson's first album.

Thanks for the post, Sir.Byrd.

Ooh thanks for the pointers to these DVDs. would be very interested in hearing the stories behind the first release. I've been lucky to have seen JB in concert three times - in the 70's, 80's, and at an outdoor show at the Chateau St. Michelle winery with Bonnie Raitt in the 90's. All incredible shows with great musicianship. :music:

Dudes: I just got Running on Empty on vinyl.
And its awesome.

Well, I actually already had it... but this one is in better shape.

I also got Saturate Before Using too.

I saw him play in Baton Rouge, many years ago...

A friend asked me to go to the concert, so I said sure, as usual.
(77 Running On Empty Tour)

We were standing in line with a bunch of clean cut LSU college kids (we were the
longhaired country boys in the coveralls) when a radio station promoter walks
by and takes one look at us and hands us each a complimentary ticket.

Third row center seats. Excellent show.

more recent clip, but really good, imho
Anyway... enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXgegiFhAEQ&feature=related
