James Brown fans: Check this out...!

As a huge James Brown fan, I consider what I came across last week (at an not-to-be-specified collectable shop in a not-to-be-specified location) to be the score of a lifetime as far as Soul records go.

I walk in and spot a large assortment of 45s and start to browse the artists. I immediately say to myself "Holy ****! That's a lot of James Brown 45s." I count about 40 or so and start to look through the titles. Very surprised to see the bulk of them from the late 60's to mid 70's (what many consider, myself included, to be his most creative and undeniably utmost funky period.)

I start to take some out of the sleeves and realize that more than half of them literally look unplayed. Lots of promo copies as well. No surface wear or marks, no spindle wear, perfectly crisp or barely bent, original 45 sleeves, just a little dust on the vinyl.

To get to the point, none of the records in the store were priced. The guy said that he bought out a record store that went out of business sometime back and that he had just moved locations, hadn't had time to price anything yet and that he would get a ballpark on records from browsing Ebay. I offered to buy a huge chunk of the JB 45s and came home with the 28 best (musical and physical condition) 45s for a very handsome price which I will also not mention.

James Brown records (LPs and 45s) have been on the rise in price ever since he passed away on Christmas 2005. I am amazed that I came across so many of what appear to be unplayed records from around the same time period. Makes you wonder...

Nice. I came across three JB LPs at a SA on Monday. Not being intimately familiar with the timeline, I'm guessing they were maybe early 60s on the King label. I was going to snatch them up, but when I pulled them out of the sleeves, they were really scuffed with some scratches. Even though it would only have ben maybe $3, I didn't think it was worth it. They also had a copy of The Clash's "Combat Rock." Sadly, it was also very worn, and I opted not to chance it.

If you never saw him live you really missed a great time. There is a show of him playing Las Vegas that comes around in rotation on Palldia TV that is well worth seeing. Non stop high energy!
