Jamo 160b speakers???????

Please could somebody help me on this one!
I have purchased a pair of the 'Jamo Power 160' for £10 (around $17) off a friend. the speaker foam on both of them is rotted, and i need to buy some more and i dont know the correct size and type to buy, i am a complete newbie to any speaker repair at all!
I wondered if anybody had ANY information on these speakers?

Looks like a fairly good speaker, judging from original price.
Measure the diameter of the cone and measure the diameter of the inner diameter of the flat part of the basket (the metal (usually) outer part that is screwed to the enclosure). Usually speakers are measured by the outer diameter of the basket, so that'll give you the nominal size, but surrounds work best if they match the size of the gap between cone and basket. Also note whether the roll is innie or outie, and whether the foam attaches to a flat edge of the cone, or onto the angle (that's called bevel). That will give you the info to either go to a foam supplier or Ebay.
You apparently are in England, and don't know who sells them there -- perhaps another AKer might make a suggestion -- but AK member Reedger might be able to help.
There are plenty of threads on how to refoam here, and then videos etc all over the internet.

Just make sure you have the right style. Some drivers have a flat lip at the edge of the cone, others just continue the cone shape and use a surround with an angled inner edge to match up.
 
Yer, these just carry on the cone shape and attach to the rear of the actual paper cone so ill just check the auction to see what they are!

Nat... where did you find some info on these speakers!!!
 
I found the price in an old Orion Bluebook. Note, though that the reference is to the Power 160R -- could be a typo, or could be a different speaker. They were made in 81 -85 (though my 84 Audio Directory doesn't list them) and suppoedly went for $480 a pair.
The seller you are thinking of using seems to have a range, which suggests he's not a fly by night, which is probably good. I'd check the actual sizes (ID and ODand how big the lips are) with him just in case -- ARs often had slightly different sizes than other manufacturers.
 
Brill, cheers! i think i could have hit a bargain then!!!
I knew jamos were quite expensive! but the short time i heard them they sounded pretty cool!!
erm, i found some different foams specially suited for jamos here http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI...y=14990&ssPageName=WDVW&rd=1#ebayphotohosting

so these may have the angled lip on them. the only problem i found was that the internal diameter is about 4mm too short soo i dont know what to do... H E L P ! !

Sorted!!!

Hey guys,
Just to let you now, i have just fiished my first refoam, and done the speakers!!
No coil rubbing (phew)
And also they look quite cool now!! (ill attatch some pictures)
One thing...
I attatched the inside ring of the foam to the front of the cone, where most speakers are attatched anyway, but the original foam was attatched to the back. wat have i done or does it really matter??

I think that wether you mount them to the front or the back is a matter of personal preference.They look good to me.How do they sound? They remind me of my marantz LS 17a's.

Its a leak Delta 30 amp, vintage gem supposedly!! need a new amp and will be as good as new!! haha!
Googled them, them marantz speakers look A W E S O M E ! ! tHEY BOTH HAVE THAT STRANGE HEATSINK LOOKING THING ON IT, BUT YOURS HAVE MANY DIFFERENT TWEETERS AND SUCH WHEREAS MINE ONLY HAS THE ONE. sorry bout the caps lock!!
yer, they are supposedly worth quite a bit, i got them for a tenner!!

Especially initially, before the foam has loosened up, they might be slightly farther back in the magnetic gap than they are supposed to be, which might have some effect on their behavior at very high volumes. But the spider tends to have more control over the cone than the surround, so very soon I suspect it will have no material effect.
 
I had a smaller pair of Jamos, D6 or something similar that had the 10" woofer and the same tweeter, or at least the same diffuser (not a heat sink) mounted in front of the tweeter.

Nice speakers but a little bright for my taste. I read somewhere that the diffuser was an attempt to mellow them out a bit. No information at all about older Jamos on the web.

oooh D6 , look nice and yer the diffuser does make a difference to the sound, they sound pretty cool aswell!
I origanally bought them to use with my electric drums but they sound too good for that!!!
