This post really is not a question, just my impression and thoughts on some rare Jamo that just came through here and we sold tonight. While you can pull up some images online of these particular Jamo, the image link will likely take you off to a foreign country where the speakers are for sale. My belief is there just wasn't very many Cornet 100 IV sold in the United States, or possibly they were an "Order Only" speaker back when they were released?
Upon hooking them up to a 85WPC Denon receiver they sounded really good. When they were hooked to a 105WPC B&K st-140 they sounded great, but I could tell they still wanted even more wattage. I believe the 200W rating on them is truthful... They would likely be an interesting candidate to bi-amp since they seemed like they were so thirsty for more wattage.
We would have kept them around but we have lots of other speakers hanging around. I never opened the Jamo up to take a look inside, but I believe both 10" woofers are possibly active, unlike a lot of these larger dual woofer speakers where the bottom speaker is a passive radiator.
They imaged extremely well. Frankly, they sounded better than Cambridge Soundworks Tower 1 Bipoles that we had a while back that also had a 1" silk dome tweeter. The mids and vocals were excellent on these Jamo.
There's not many speakers that pass through that surprise me and disappear in the room effortlessly. These Jamo disappeared in the room and they were able to get some real life presence in the room occasionally. Not bad, not bad Jamo, we sold them for $200 tonight and I believe they were worth every penny of that. I'm sure that someone has a comment but I believe they were worth $200, if they were mint condition I'd even say worth $300 after hearing them. Considering how much better they sounded than several other speakers we've had pass through that were 2X that cost... Ummm yeah, the Jamo Cornet 100 IV are great!
The only complaint was the grills were kind of flimsy, the grill material also wanted to come off the edges of the grills. It appears someone tried to stretch and glue the grill material many times to the flimsy grills. Not really an issue though, they were an attractive cherry veneer speaker so we just left the grills off.
If you want a well balanced speaker that has plenty of bass and images nicely, grab some Jamo Cornet 100 IV if you ever see them out in the wild.
Just thought I would share my thoughts about the Jamo.
