Janzsen Z-40's.

I have just purchased a pair of Janzsen Z-40's. One of the speakers is making a distinct sizzle, crackle and pop sound. Is this normal? I have been using them for a few hours but it still remains. They sound great if you can listen around the noise.

Please help, I am getting quite worried about it. :tears:

It could be the panel arcing. Are you playing them loud? What are you using to drive it?

You could be doing some real damage. I don't think I'd play them until I found out what's wrong.

Are you thinking of fixing them and flipping them?

Hi, thanks for your reply.

I am not playing them very loud. I am using them with a Marantz 1250.

I bought them to use for myself.

BTW the noise is there as soon as you plug the speaker into the wall socket. It is there even if the amp is switched off.

Do not use these until you replace all the diodes and high power ceramic caps.you risk damaging the panels or transformers if these are not functioning properly..These are cheap components and any tech should be able to replace them in about an hour. The panels could be getting excessive voltage.

Good day, I dont have that much experiance with the Z 40's yet as mine are in the shop getting the power supplies rebuilt. From what I have read and heard the crackling is related to either high humidity or frying dust bunnies. humidity could be combated with a de-humidifier but the dust is a whole different problem. With the cardboard lenses in place all that comes to mind is some compressed air in a can to blow it out but that can lead to even worse problems like putting more dust from the lenses into the elements or getting something really wedged into the elements and causing them to short out completely. In a week or so I should have mine back and will try to offer more help.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I am sure that humidity is not a problem as the other speaker is fine. As for the dust, that is quite possible. What would the best way to get the dust our be? a vacuum perhaps? Would I be doing damage if I use the speaker with the dust on it?

When you plug in a set of JansZens, you should not put any music through them for 24 hours to allow the ozone layer to stablize and also to allow the membrane likewise settle.

A vacuumm can be used but make sure the suction is not great. I alsways used the little round upholstry brush and only littley whn over the grills.

Most likely the noise is the result of the PS and x-over being due for caps.
