Jareds Work Office System

I finally got a satisfactory setup for hours of listening bliss in the office at work. Source is my computer running my high res files and Spotify. For now, I am using a FiiO E17 Alpen USB DAC which is then connected to a DIY 6N3 tube preamp in a custom wood cabinet. The amplifier is a DIY TPA3116 also in a matching wood cabinet. Speakers are Fostex P1000E DIY kit using the FE103-SOL-8 50th anniversary limited edition 4in drivers. A good friend is building my some custom 6 liter bamboo and jatoba wood cabinets that should give me a bit more range. I am quite pleased with the results although I plan on replacing the TPA3116 with a small tube amp.

Edit: Forgot to add I am running a Polk 10in subwoofer under the desk crossed over at 100hz to cover the lower freqs.

Those amp cases are great. Did you make them or the guy making your new speaker cabs? Either way very nice.

Jared, where did you get that speaker kit? I love those.

Edit: found it at Madisound. I may just get the drivers and build cabs. Your buddy's cabs inspired me. Jatoba is such a beautiful wood. Brazilian Cherry is another name for it.

Thanks everyone for the compliments! I bought the amp/preamp combo already built from an AKr.
I think the bamboo/jatoba is a gorgeous combo. I'll get pics up ss soon as I have them installed.

Amazing setup! How do your coworkers/boss like it?

Mechanical keyboard?

And where is your second monitor mister? I would go crazy with just one at work!

Also noticed your trackball! I like to use one as well. I have three mousing options at my disposal at all times (trackpad, mouse and trackball).... but I am an IT geek.

They love it! The keyboard is a washable Logitech keyboard. I do need a second monitor! Maybe one of these days lol. I went to the trackball because I was having wrist problems. Trackballs are a great solution to that. I myself am an IT geek as well, systems admin to be exact :D

Washable keyboard! What a great idea!

I was a sysadmin before starting my own company. I could barely get away with headphones at work! Then again, I was in the bullpen with no door or walls around my desk.

Cant wait to see the new cabs loaded!

i must say i've been very impressed with the 3116/3 tube preamp combo. what is your take?

how has the change in cabinets affected the sound of the fostex? i had those kanspea cabinets and was darn impressed; not much bass but the rest was excellent.

I really love the combo although I will be replacing it with a tube amp in January when I have a bit more play funds. It does mate very well with the Fostex speakers.
I was impressed with what that little speaker kit did put out but with these cabs, the soundstage is so much bigger and the sound is much more full. I also noticed that it blends seamlessly with the subwoofer.

The kanspea cabs are based on the fostex plans (which some criticize). How did you go about designing the new ones. You kept the overall design the same, bass reflex (port), but bigger.
