Java Downloaded, But Not There. Need Help!

Downloaded Java, or so i thought in order to print coupons. Got all through untill a last question recommending Ask toolbar install. Did not need another search engine or toolbar, so I said "no."

Is this where I erred? Install was supposed to be complete, but does not show up on desktop or in "All Programs." Appreciate advice.

have you restarted it ? plus look in add remove programs . i don't think it will show on desktop its not a program that you run yourself
 
Not installing the toolbar has not effect on the install of Java. You can go to the Control Panel and and remove software applications and look at the list generated. Java will show up if installed.
 
Maybe you need to disable or adjust your anti-virus and/or firewall to download and install?

I was having this problem trying to install shockwave. I had to disable the antivirus and give the installer access permission in the firewall.
 
My guess would be that Java is installed. If you are using Firefox, keep in mind that from Firefox 6.0 on, Java is disabled in Firefox. I have been unable to find out what takes its place with Firefox or why it is not used. I have searched on Google, but have not found a really simple answer to this issue. Chances are if you use Internet Explorer, Java should work with it.
 
Checked "Add/Remove" programs in the Control Panel and it is not there. My guess is I did something else besides reject Ask toolbar. I have IE8. No issues came up while downloading.

Could there be an issue from the site I downloaded from? (Java) Have had bad experience with CNET so I skip it.
 
To not install the toolbar you uncheck the checkbox, I suspect you may have hit cancel on that screen by mistake. After that screen it takes a another minute or two to install with a progress bar, so if you did not see that, it did not install.

It all happened so fast i don't recall an "uncheck" box. May well have been a cancel tab, but what befuddles me is on prior page I seem to recall "download or install complete." Was not expecting the toolbar choice option. Whatever I did, it was not a successful download.

Guess I'll go back to Java web site and retry.
 
you may need to set the JAVAHOME variable in the place where it is set (lol) all these versions of windoze I dont keep track anymore.
 
Finally! Success downloading Java. Took it slow this time and read the fine print on last option to accept Ask browser/toolbar. Accepted, restarted, and done! Apparently by clicking cancel I wiped everything out.

On the Ask toolbar there is an options tab(far right) with uninstall menu. Does this wipe Ask Toolbar and browser function? Thanks to all working it out with me. :thmbsp:
