Less mainstream meaning less well known. I hear songs from B.B. King and Ray Charles and such being played as commercials now. Just like Cadillac took one of my favorite Led Zepplin songs and made it into a commercial. I want to find the guys that people don't recognize the second they hear it.

Nobody has mentioned my jazz favorite yet, so I'll have to do it myself:
Oscar Peterson Trio from the '60s (OP piano, Ray Brown bass and Ed Thigpen drums). Amazing tight ensemble playing. Peterson's elegant bluesy swing is my cup of tea. Favorite albums: We Get Requests and Night Train. Since you are a trumpeter, jstas, I'll also mention Oscar Peterson Trio + One with Clark Terry - check it out!
