Im through with my $40 jbl l100 purchase auditions, and they were fun. even though I do have a buyer for them Im keeping them for a while and using one for a bass guitar speaker.they do sound good,but using home speakers as musical instrument speaker is risky ,musicians are deaf as to how loud they play their instruments and home speakers are not voiced properly for guitar or bass guitar.without a strong midrange and since our ears not not that sensitive to bass its easy to play too loud and push the speaker beyond what they were designed to do.since a good part of the notes that the 5 string bass produces is below the resonance of the jbl's port I have to be careful, I might seal the port with a sock or some type of plug to dampen the woofer excursion.

Uh, so if you know this is unwise and even risky, exactly why are you using this speaker for guitar play?
 
Man, you could sell your L100s and buy really a really nice loaded bass cabinet.

I dont know what they are worth Ive seen them go for 200-1100 on ebay and a good bass rig goes for at least 500.plus I have a 5 string bass that goes down to 31hz and no bass speaker I know can reproduce that very well.Im currently using a rockford/fosgate dual voice coil car woofer which is scarey it can take alot of power and play very loud but it has very little midrange which is why I like the jbl's.
 
Uh, you'll basically waste the L100 and destroy its value if you use it as a bass guitar speaker and damage the drivers. Better to sell them now, get at least $500 for them and find a purpose built bass speaker for your musician use.

If you don't need much portability, you could easily find a JBL 4648 double 15" cabinet loaded with JBL 2226H or J drivers or a 4645 with a single 18" 2242H or 2245H driver. Both cabinets can reach down easily into the low 30's, the double 15 will have better midrange though. You'll have to have an amp of at least 150-250 Watts to do them justice though, and they are both 8 cu.ft. Cabinets. But they will rock all night. There are also a number of 47xx JBL cabinets purpose built for bass guitar work using E14x drivers too.
 
Home speakers can't handle the transients a guitar and amp put out. I'll bet the mids and tweets are already blown.
 
I thought you weren't supposed to mention value in any forums other than BT and D&S ? I'm sure the mods will be along soon

Bad move to play any instrument through those speakers :crazy:
