Do you know what Aquaplas is made of? It was sprayed onto the cone to add mass. It cracks easily. I don't know and perhaps it was a trade secret, but certainly repairing it is unique to mending torn paper cones, for example.
BTW, I didn't suggest that it was the choice of product, only that I suspected it was better than the rubber cement someone used on mine.

JBL didn't think so as evidenced by the writing, but since they were studio monitors they likely were often on a desk or a flown shelf.

Being a tradesman, a painter for 33 years I've had lots of experience with spackle.
Or at least the spackle that comes in plastic jars and is used to repair walls and ceilings.
Maybe there is some other spackle I am not aware of.

Spackling paste or spackling compound is made of gypsum powder and binders and is used to patch small holes, cracks and other imperfections like dents in drywall, plaster walls, and sometimes in wood.

I’ve had several vintage JBLs with aquaplas, white and black, have inspected very closely and never has there been any cracking on them. One pair of L100As I bought used and they were rather abused, but still excellent cones w/o cracks (just beverage spills).
I don’t agree that simple age and normal use will crack aquaplas.

I'm saying aquaplas is NOT the spackle that I use in my line of work.
I've cut and pasted a couple definitions of spackle already.
Have you compared the ingredients used in each product?
I would not use spackle for any speaker repair outside of the cabinets. And there are better products for that.

If I misconstrued your comment as aquaplas and spackle are the same then my apologies.
Every so often my reading comprehension takes a day off.
Spackling is worthless as a speaker repair product, unless used on the cabinet. And even then there are better products to use.
Spackle is useful for some wall repairs.

No problem. I can see how it could be misconstrued. I wasn't saying that Aquaplas and spackle are the same thing. I was saying that without knowing what Aquaplas is it would be difficult to know what is or isn't a good patching material for it.
